Horszowski Trio – February 14, 2027

The Horszowski Trio has become a major presence in chamber music since forming in 2011, earning praise for performances described as “eloquent and enthralling” (The Boston Globe) and “the most compelling American group to come on the scene” (The New Yorker). In 2023, the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition established the “Horszowski Trio Prize” for piano trio winners.

The trio made its sold-out London debut at Wigmore Hall in 2019 and followed with a celebrated 21-concert German tour in 2022, where critics praised the ensemble’s expressive depth, stylistic sensitivity, and interpretive imagination.

Inspired by legendary pianist Mieczysław Horszowski, whose final Curtis Institute student was pianist Rieko Aizawa, the ensemble performs a broad repertoire that includes works by composers connected personally to Horszowski, such as Gabriel Fauré, Maurice Ravel, and Heitor Villa-Lobos.

Their recordings have received wide acclaim, including albums of French repertoire on Bridge Records and the complete piano trios of Robert Schumann on AVIE Records, praised for their warmth, energy, and emotional depth.

Committed to contemporary music, the trio has premiered and commissioned works by composers including Derek Bermel, Paul Chihara, and David Fulmer. They also worked closely with composer Charles Wuorinen, giving the world premiere of his Trio No. 2 at the Library of Congress in 2025.

During the COVID pandemic, the ensemble continued performing, notably presenting Morton Feldman’s two-hour Piano Trio, later repeating the work in 2026 for Feldman’s centennial celebration at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Based in New York City, the Horszowski Trio is also deeply committed to education, presenting masterclasses, residencies, and mentorship programs for young musicians through partnerships with leading conservatories and the Midori & Friends Foundation.
