The Calidore String Quartet has earned international acclaim for its remarkable unity of expression and technical brilliance. Praised by critics including The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and The New York Times, the Quartet is celebrated for performances that combine precision, emotional depth, and dramatic intensity. Their repertoire ranges from the complete Beethoven and Mendelssohn quartets to contemporary works by composers such as Caroline Shaw, György Kurtág, and Jörg Widmann.
The Quartet has appeared at many of the world’s leading concert halls and festivals, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw, and the BBC Proms, collaborating with artists including Anne-Sophie Mutter, Joshua Bell, and Jean-Yves Thibaudet.
Champions of contemporary music, the Calidore regularly premieres new works and continues an active international touring and recording career. Recent projects include acclaimed recordings of the complete Beethoven string quartets and collaborations with leading composers and performers across Europe and North America.
Formed in 2010 at the Colburn School, the Quartet has received major honors including the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award, and the Grand Prize at the M-Prize International Chamber Music Competition. They currently serve as the Distinguished String Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Delaware.
